I have a ~1920s wood-burning farmhouse cook stove in my kitchen which we use regularly. Obviously, smoke and soot builds up on the vaulted ceiling around the stove.

I'm looking some type of paint or ideas for good materials that are easier to clean smoke/soot off of.

How about a vent hood to draw the dirty air out of the house? If not that, a _very_ high gloss paint (will be the smoothest paint finish), or stainless steel to protect the impacted areas. – FreeMan Sep 24 '21 at 14:48
  • Also, this is borderline arts & crafts/decorating (which is off-topic), but installing a vent hood would make it more [diy.se] like, so _I'm_ willing to let it slide. – FreeMan Sep 24 '21 at 15:19
  • What is the material on your existing ceiling? Wood? Drywall? Textured/popcorn drywall? What is your budget? I agree with Freeman that stainless steel would be a good choice. Tempered glass may be another. – peinal Sep 24 '21 at 15:37

@Freeman - Not even arts and craft decorating adjacent. Question is about a functional aspect of paint for a particular purpose. – Chris Cudmore Sep 24 '21 at 16:07
  • @ChrisCudmore I said "boarders" and that I wasn't VtC... – FreeMan Sep 24 '21 at 16:15
  • Proper operation of inlet air and flue damper should keep smoke to a minimum. – blacksmith37 Sep 24 '21 at 18:28
  • @peinal The ceiling is just standard drywall and the brick wall/chimney behind the stove. – hydrian Mar 08 '22 at 15:42
