I received as a gift, a vacuum cleaner of an unknown company, that can also wash the floor. The instructions say "when filling the water-tank, use only a detergent without foam, as foam may harm the engine". I went to supermarkets, but no-one know what detergent does not generate foam.

I believe this requirement is not unique to this particular machine. My question is: what kind of detergents of fragrants can I put into it, so that they will not "generate foam" and not harm the engine? It could also be natural materials.

EDIT: I am not looking for recommendations of a specific commercial product. I am looking for more general guidance. For example: are there natural substances that can be used? Maybe sodium bicarbonate?

Try Google - results can be surprising: I used "non foaming detergent for vacuum cleaner" – Solar Mike Nov 27 '23 at 10:50
  • My floor cleaner vacuum has the same requirement: no-foam detergent. It came with its own bottle, though, and I never had to buy more before we got rid of the carpets and went moppable-floor. The web search terms by @SolarMike work well for me, too. – Triplefault Nov 27 '23 at 12:02
  • BTW, as it is, this is a shopping question, which is considered off-topic here. To avoid getting the question closed, you might need to edit it to ask a more specific question than "what do I need to get". – Triplefault Nov 27 '23 at 12:05
  • Also, dishwasher (the machine) detergent is well-known to not foam. – Huesmann Nov 27 '23 at 13:56
  • Appliance usage questions are off topic here. – isherwood Nov 27 '23 at 14:01
  • @Huesmann also clothes washing detergent, or the foam would come out of the top/dispenser drawer. Presumably this wants a liquid detergent – Chris H Nov 27 '23 at 16:53
  • @Huesmann interesting! So I can take a capsule of a dishwasher-detergent and put in the water, and it will clean the floor without harming the engine? – Erel Segal-Halevi Nov 27 '23 at 20:33
